[/style] [atrb=border,0,true] Danny was ecstatic about signing up for the trials. It was the kind of thing he had always wanted to do. He and Hugo practiced for several hours a day, five days a week in order to prepare for the dressage trial. Danny is a perfectionist and is a stickler on everything being perfect, especially when it came to dressage. Even though he knew that everything wouldn't end up being perfect and that horses could definitely act unexpectedly, he was still going to strive to be the best and to make it on the riding team. He was a professor for Adrenaline Rush, if anyone deserved to represent the college it was him.
The grey Andalusian stallion let out a snort as Danny tacked him up. Hugo looked spectacular. Danny had bathed him the day before and had braided his mane and tail. He had spent a total of almost two hours getting him ready this morning, yet he knew that he was going to have a long day ahead of him. Once Hugo was all tacked up, he led the stallion out of his stall and down the barn aisle. Once they were out of the barn, Hugo lit up. His grey ears perked and he arched his neck. Be good. The stallion pranced a bit. He normally only acted like this when he knew that he was going to be in the arena.
As he neared the indoor arena, he could see a crowd gathered. Stands had been set up inside so students and fellow professors could watch. His blue eyes glanced over to the outdoor arena where people seemed to be warming up their horses. Danny and Hugo were fifth on the list. Better get warmed up. He patted the stallion on the neck and led him towards the outdoor arena. Hugo tossed his head and snorted. Danny's frustration started to grow. Come on! Stop it! He quickly lowered the iron stirrups, gathered the reins, and got on. The grey beauty tried to walk off and stopped once he felt the tug on the reins. Danny got himself collected up and shortened the reins a bit. Once the stallion relaxed, he squeezed him into a walk.
Time fly by quick as entries came and went. In about half an hour, it was his turn. He rubbed Hugo's neck before they entered the arena. We got this. Do me proud, boy. You know what follows if you do. The stallion snorted and tossed his head. Then Danny sat tall in the saddle, holding the reins with a good grip, and entered the arena at a working trot. He went around the perimeter of the arena once before coming down the center and halting in the center of the arena facing the judges. He did his salute and then squeezed Hugo back into a trot towards E. Just before they reached E, he shifted his weight and started a circle. They turned on the inside and Hugo turned perfectly. Danny changed rein and squeezed the Andalusian stallion lightly, moving him into a rising trot and lengthening his stride.
The handsome pair then serpentined perfectly down the arena from wall to wall until they finished at A; then they proceeded to K. Danny changed rein once again and had Hugo lengthen his stride once again. The pair looked absolutely beautiful! Once they reached C, Danny sat down in his seat and the stallion slowed to a walk. He loosened the grip on the reins. A few moments later, he gripped the reins tight again and squeezed Hugo lightly into a trot. He then kept his outside leg pressed against Hugo's side as they circled. At the end of the circle, Danny shifted his weight and moved the stallion into a working canter. They turned in a circle once again, and then proceeded to M, where he changed reins and slowed Hugo to a working trot.
They then transitioned into a working trot again, this time on the left lead. At letter A they turned in a 15 diameter circle and then proceeded to letter F. Once there, he sat in his seat and changed reins, slowing Hugo to a working trot. They then turned in a 20 meter circle. He kept his outside leg pressed against the stallion's side just in case he decided to stop. He knew the stallion knew better, but it was just a precaution. Danny posted through the circle before shortening the reins and sat in his seat as they proceeded to A in a sitting trot.
Then the pair came down the center of the arena and once again, halted in front of the judges. Danny saluted them, and the crowd watching burst into an applause and whistles. He loosened the reins and patted Hugo on the neck and rubbed him all over. Good boy. I knew you could do it! Such a good boy! A huge smile remained on his face as they exited the arena. Once out of the arena he dismounted and put the irons up. Now all they had to do was wait for their score. He rubbed the stallions face. You did me good. Thank you. The grey Andalusian snorted and tossed his head in approval. Now, it was time to play the waiting game.
