Footsteps against the barn’s cement floor seemed quite unfamiliar to the girl’s sensitive ears. Just merely the day before, Sadie had moved into her box filled dorm within the college along with Hutch, her little or large in a sense partner in crime. The horse had been quite jittery during the whole trailer ordeal along with her being quite annoyed at the fact she was forced to sell her dear convertible in order to get a more helpful vehicle. Still, she loved her horse much more than she loved her car and grudgingly, Sadie made her way in half ton aged pick up. It had squealed and protested against her anxious moves to press it forward, though surprisingly the girl had made her way to the college parking lot without it breaking down. Of course, her mother was obviously too busy to even tell her a goodbye other than a note and she had driven down all by herself. Sadie wasn’t the least bit upset about her mom however, she had long since accepted the fact she would never get the attention she needed from her parental figure. Her mother, a true business woman had gotten married t her job after her husband died in order to separate herself from the pain and in a way nearly forgot about her young daughter.
Sadie of course, had realized her mother’s lack of attention had its benefits however, many of them including simply driving over to her friend’s house to party hard. It was a complete surprise, even to herself, that she was still a virgin. Now only her extremely opposite, socially awkward, nerdy brother was sticking in with her mom, though she did miss him quite some. The boy had been her companion in life other than her friends, well actual true companion in that sense. Still, Sadie had James on speed dial and made sure that he had her too in order to call and tell her if their mother was acting a bit crazier than usual. While, she couldn’t go back and help him, she could emotionally help her brother by talking and comforting him over the phone. The girl’s mind wandered back to what she was doing and where she was, enjoying the musky scent of horses. It was another rare find of a familiar thing of back home, and something she longed to keep stuck in her mind forever. Dark brow melting eyes gave her an insistent look as she made her way more into the barn, causing a small amount of uncharacteristic cooing.
“Hi sweetheart. How is my baby doing today, hmm?” The large chestnut pushed his full weight onto the large stall door, making it groan as to say he wanted to go out. Sadie wasn’t surprised; she didn’t have the time to ride him yesterday after she unloaded him and he had been cooped up in a trailer for nearly six hours, a long break between each two. They had after all driven from Napa to Santa Barbara, and she was quite sure the gelding was missing his home as well. Sadie just hoped they could face their new surroundings together, not that she had much doubt. Sadie never really feared anything… Especially emotional things. Quickly, her slender body slid through the door in which she slipped a leather halter onto Hutch’s face. Sadie then led him out into the cross ties and went to her large mahogany tack box to search for her private grooming kit. Her mother definitely had money, though all of her time had been take away. Sadie set to simply using a hard brush over the gelding’s coat as he wasn’t that dirty. “Yes, I know, we’re going to finally go on a ride, eh boy?” her voice was sweeter than she would’ve ever used with a human as Hutch nudged her with his big cuddly head. Sadie hummed quietly to herself as she worked over his coat, occasionally saying something or another to her horse.

The pain hits him hard every single day. He hated losing Jezz. It wasn't the first time he had lost her and that's the part that pissed him off. He hated how he could love someone unconditionally just to have them love someone else. He was done. He knew he needed to move on and so he was, but it was taking him some time to heal, naturally. Despite what was going on in his heart, his mind was clear. It was a good day in Santa Barbara and he was going to make the most of it, like he usually tried to do. It was Summer anyways, so he wasn't really pounded with classes and such.
Danny parked his car and headed into the barn. His lips parted into a small smile as his boots clicked against the barn floor. He had recently purchased a few more horses and was wanting to take the American Warmblood mare out on a ride. She was a beautiful tall chestnut with great bloodlines. His smile brightened as he made his way to her stall, where she was there waiting for him with her head hanging over the half door. Hey there girl, how are you? He rubbed Dove's copper colored forehead, his fingers tracing over the white star. You're such a pretty girl. The mare sighed and rested her forehead against his chest. Danny smiled. He loved having a connection like this with his horses. It's one of the greatest things in the world.
He continued to stand there for a moment longer with Dove before he would go grab the groom box and her tack. Then he heard a soft voice speaking. Out of curiosity he peeked into the next stall where he saw a beautiful brown haired girl grooming a chestnut Thoroughbred gelding. He smiled softly at the picture. He couldn't take his eyes off of the girl. She was gorgeous. He assumed she was knew here because he hadn't seen her around the campus before. Danny cleared his throat a bit. With a smile on his lips, he spoke to her. That's a beautiful gelding. He has excellent confirmation.
His blue eyes darted back to Dove who was looking at him to give her more attention. He reached over and stroked her soft, velvety muzzle. I'm Danny by the way. His smile widened. He watched her a bit longer, trying not to be a creeper, and then turned back to Dove. He muttered under his breath, I better go get your tack and groom box. He leaned over and glanced at the girl. I'll be right back, miss. I have to go get my groom box and tack.
God you're an idiot! You just made a complete fool out of yourself! Then again..you hadn't done that since before you met Jezz. What the hell? Does this girl have some sort of thing about her? He did his best to ignore his thoughts as he walked into the tack room. He glanced around it and once he found his groom box, he grabbed it, along with his saddle and bridle. His boots clicked along the cobblestone ground of the barn as he made his way back to Dove and to the pretty girl. Try not to embarrass yourself this time.

The girl’s attention was fully on the large animal in front of her as he watched her with obvious excitement while she flicked a hard brush over the smooth coat. Hutch, a smart horse none the less, knew he was about to be ridden and took the idea very optimistically. Sadie felt happy to be agreeing with her horse on something as she really had needed a ride. The last time she had gone on a good workout with the chestnut had been too long ago and the girl needed to let loose. The brunette felt free on Hutch’s broad back; it was the main reason she had invested in the young gelding when she had first laid eyes on his spoilt little build. Throwing his mistress off on the test ride, Sadie’s mother was quite horrified and surprised at the fact the girl wanted such a “dangerous creature”, but agreed to it only because she thought it would give her a sense of responsibility. Sadie snorted at the thought of her mother actually caring about her daughter right now. It had been a long time, far longer than most since Sadie had received a hug from the woman that held the title of mom. She really didn’t deserve it in Sadie’s mind.
“That's a beautiful gelding. He has excellent confirmation.” The brunette turned her pretty head to look at the new masculine voice as Hutch bobbed his head in agreement. Sadie chuckled softly at the animal and gave the man a grin. “Thanks. He seems to think so too.” she said, voice full of amusement as she looked closer at the opposite figure. A young man for sure, though just about too old to be a student. She curiously wondered who he was and what horse he owned, though her query was answered as he announced himself as ‘Danny’. His mare was quite lovely in which Sadie decided to keep quiet on until she knew the guy better. She simply found it a bit awkward to hand out a compliment so immediately and in such similarity to his. Yes, she had already decided she thought about those matters to much, but in compliance to his introduction, she flashed him a small grin. “Sadie.” Her mother would’ve been at least a little happy she was actually being civil to an acquaintance unlike she had been to the perverted, spoilt children of her mother’s friends. Still, she had a reason then and decided despite whatever her mother said, her decisions was correct.
Sadie was unable to hear the man’s mutter to his horse, though his announcement of having to go get his groom box and tack made it into her ears very well. She laughed good humouredly and nodded, “Sounds like a good plan. I actually gotta go do that too.” He was interesting, in a good sense and she noted to study further as to what Danny was. Still, making due to her own announcement, Sadie walked consistently over to the large tack box and grabbed her well cleaned tack. She liked to keep her things up to date, nevertheless her situation. It was just being Sadie. The brunette grabbed the saddle pad and pulled it over Hutch’s red-haired back. He skirted in surprise, causing the girl to wince. She had forgotten to show him it, and Hutch liked to know when he was about to be saddled. “Sorry bud. My bad…” she frowned and patted his neck, then finished tacking him up. She paused only when the gelding’s stomach puffed out. “C’mon Hutch, I know you’re not that fat.” she groaned under the muscle strength it was taking her to pull his girth up. She finally ended with two on each and decided to tighten it when she got to the arena. Sadie looked at her new made acquaintance, looking over his saddle to find with pleasure it was English. Immediately, the girl asked straight out, “What discipline do you teach?” she wondered if he dabbled in eventing any bit; assuming completely he was a professor. She really hoped she assumed right, or she most likely had offended him.

He smiled softly and was happy that girl wasn't being a prude and ignoring him. He felt like he was completely embarrassing himself though. He didn't normally care, even when he was teaching his classes. He could screw up in front of his students and just laugh about it. Why should this be any different? His expression hardened a bit as he opened the stall door and stepped inside. Dove took a couple steps back and stretched her neck out, smelling the black leather. He smiled softly and rubbed her forehead.
On the other side of the stall, he could hear Sadie talking to her gelding, Hutch. He smiled softly as he laid the saddle pad onto Dove's back along with the saddle and began to cinch her up. By the way, it's nice to meet you Sadie. I take it you're new here? Danny hadn't seen her around campus before. He could usually pick out the new students from the returning ones. He chuckled softly as he listened to her talk to her gelding. He had just finished cinching Dove up and took the bridle and slid the cold, metal bit into her mouth. She accepted it and he finished strapping the bridle together. In no time, they were ready.
Danny smiled at the chestnut mare and gathered the reins. He then opened the stall door and let her out into the barn aisle. Then he heard Sadie's voice reach out to him. I teach jumping and dressage. What do you ride and show in? He backed the mare up a bit as they stood outside Hutch's stall. He felt kind of dumb to be waiting for her because he hadn't even asked if she would like to join him for a ride. Hey, would you like to join me and Dove for a trail ride? There's one trail that leads up and you can see the ocean and all of Santa Barbara from it. It's really quite beautiful. He smiled softly, his blue eyes watching her as she prepared the Thoroughbred for his ride. Danny hoped that she would join him, he needed for friends. He focused way too much on his horses. Having a friend could do him some good.

In general, Sadie didn’t have a problem talking to her animals at all. She talked to her horses nearly twenty-four seven and didn’t know why anyone wouldn’t want to talk to their animals. Still, as the little horse girl she was, Sadie had been teased many times about her personal discussions with the creatures and even sometimes bullied. Not that it had ever seriously affected the young woman. Sadie was much too strong to let some nobodies into her life; though her mother was a different story on the care level. Like it had always been, Sadie’s strong, young voice reached out to Hutch’s perked ears. He was so used to it by now, with all the talking and explaining she did. The main reason behind it all was not to just hear her voice, but to get some of the early emotions and anger toward her mother out in a safe way. Sadie knew bottling up her emotions wasn’t good, and at many times told her horses about the absurdities going on in her life. Especially Hutch got to know about them, with him being the leading horse throughout her life. The gelding blew out softly in response, though his excitement got the better of his attention.
Sadie smiled as she finished with the saddle, satisfied how it looked on the horse. She had just replaced all her equipment before she came to the school, due to a need for a new start. Going on retail therapy was the perfect way to prepare herself or any girl for the start of a new overwhelming school year. Especially since she was going to Adrenaline Rush this year. It was not too far from her hometown, but it still was completely different than any home school. After all, she was staying in a dorm this year. Not that the parenting level changed any bit. Sadie’s mother could have just not existed and her life would remain consistent. “By the way, it's nice to meet you Sadie. I take it you're new here?” The young woman winced at his words, not because of him but of the realization of herself. It was all good natured however and she replied in a somewhat amusing voice “That obvious huh?” Sadie grinned to herself. She figured she would’ve looked quite new, though she didn’t think people she didn’t even know to figure it out in less than an hour. Still, Sadie hoped that they would be nice enough. At least professors seemed to be. In answer to his question, she smiled at her correct assumption. He was an English teacher. Perhaps she might’ve gotten him in one of her classes. “Me and Hutch do eventing, dressage in particular.” she smiled.
Sadie grabbed Hutch’s bridle finally from her large tack box, bringing it over to Hutch with a wry look. She hated putting a bridle on the gelding, due to his favorite game. The girl gave him a look before slipping the crown behind his ears, in which he replied to shaking his head up and down and around. Making an exasperated sigh, Sadie finally grabbed the horse’s muzzle and held the bit to his mouth, and Hutch finally opened up. She smiled softly and gave him a small pat. ”Never get tired of that…” Still, Sadie gave him a small smile to let him know she wasn’t pissed completely. “Hey, would you like to join me and Dove for a trail ride? There's one trail that leads up and you can see the ocean and all of Santa Barbara from it. It's really quite beautiful.” Sadie looked up to find Danny waiting for them both. Hesitantly, she looked at Hutch who seemed quite hyperactive enough to go on a trail ride. She knew he would love it. Finally giving Danny a smile, Sadie nodded. “Sure. I haven’t actually seen the ocean like that before.” of course she hadn’t, she was a valley girl from Napa. Though, Sadie knew by the end of college she would be a beach queen. Leading Hutch out of the barn, Sadie led him over to the mounting block and mounted with ease. She grinned; it felt great to be in the saddle again.

Danny couldn't help but smirk as he watched the young girl finish tacking her chestnut gelding up. She seemed quite friendly, yet quiet. He wasn't about to pry into her business, so he kept quiet and just observed for now. While he waited for Sadie's response, he lowered the stirrups. Dove tossed her head around. He smiled softly and patted her neck. Yeah, yeah. We're going soon, just hold on. The mare settled down as he gathered the reins. He put his left foot in the stirrup and pulled himself up on top of the mare. She wasn't as tall as some of his stallions, so it was easy to just hop aboard her.
He stuck his other foot in the right stirrup and gathered up reins. He looked back to Sadie and smiled softly. Nah, its not that bad. I just know a lot of people around here and hadn't seen ya before so I assumed. He paused for a bit, glancing around the stable yard, before settling his gaze back on the pretty brown haired girl. Don't worry about it though. Everyone is usually pretty nice here. He had never encountered any bad students, but he was sure that they were around here somewhere. Then again, he wasn't going to go looking for them.
His eyebrows rose at Sadie's answer to his question. Very nice. I teach Intro Dressage and Intro Showjumping. Dressage is more of my forte, but jumping helps fill in that gap for me. He smiled his charming smile, his blue-green eyes sparkling. If you ever want to have a session, let me know. It will be free of charge. He winked at her playfully. He always loved helping students with their riding, especially if it was dressage or jumping. If the older generations could pass down riding tips and secrets to the younger generations, then he would do it. There was nothing wrong with creating better riders.
The Warmblood mare began to toss her head again, but quit as soon as Danny put a bit of pressure on the reins. He sat back in his seat and Dove took three steps back. He released the pressure and rubbed her neck. Be the good girl I know you are. Danny smiled as Sadie accepted his invitation to join him on a trail ride. Awesome. You'll love it then. He turned the mare and squeezed her into a walk. Once they were out of the stable yard, he headed towards the trail head that ran towards the east side of campus. He glanced over at Sadie. So what brings you to Adrenaline Rush? He loved asking this question to new students and new teachers. He knew the school was a highly credited school, so it was interesting to meet people across the United States that wanted to come to this college.
